Before you buy

Shelving loads are stated per shelf as an evenly distributed load, which is how shelving is actually tested. Archive boxes are heavier than people expect: a full foolscap box weighs about 12 to 16 kg, so a bay holding five shelves of six boxes is carrying close to half a tonne and the floor loading matters as much as the shelf rating. Anything taller than about 1.2 metres must be anchored to the wall. A filing cabinet with two drawers open will tip forward under its own weight, which is why our cabinets have a counterweight and an interlock that allows one drawer at a time, and why tall shelving comes with wall ties. Flat packed units come with everything needed and an illustrated guide, and most take about half an hour. Pre assembled units are delivered built by two person crews, and we ask about lifts stairs and door widths before dispatch because a built four drawer cabinet does not go up a tight staircase.

Which option to buy

Flat Packed is delivered flat packed to your door for assembly on site, which is the cheaper option and takes about 30 minutes a unit. Pre Assembled is delivered built and ready to use, carried to the room on the ground floor as standard. We sell storage that has to hold real weight and sometimes has to satisfy a regulator.
