If you are planning a records room, archive or locker room, a few checks before you order make sure the storage actually fits and works on site.
What to check
- Floor loading, since a fully loaded run of archive shelving or filing cabinets can be heavy. A full foolscap archive box weighs about 12 to 16 kg.
- Aisle widths, so drawers and doors can open fully and staff can move around safely.
- Lift and door widths, along the whole route the furniture needs to travel, not just into the room itself.
- General access, including steps, stairs and any tight corners. Flat packed units are easier to get through tight spaces.
- Power for digital locks, where these are being used, so cabling can be planned in advance.
- Wall construction, so tall units can be anchored with fixings that suit the wall.
